Why do men smoke...?
..And note when I say I only men..I mean in public places.And the no of women smokers (in India) is so less that it is negligible.So the question is quite fair.
I think men like to smoke especially in public places.They would never get that kick if they had to sneak in to their bathrooms with a cig.This is the only reason I see.Its what they call bundha,style...makes them feel like a stud.Its got more to do with the psychology.How much can some tobacco make a person feel better?I dont think it even gets you high!!
Its especially irritating when people smoke in public places which is quite high in Bangalore.Like the other day..Iam sure I wudve smoked an entire beedi(of all things!!)...Zillion thanks to the old man walking in front of me..Would always reappear how much ever I tried dodging.
Anyways.."Cigarette smoking is injurious to health" and atleast smoking in public places is totally unfair..to the smoker and the people around also.
PS:If I have insulted smoking....and you were offended by that..my deep apologies..Its only to due to my lack of experience and was not intentional :)

Why do men smoke??.. Never seen the movie Charlie's Angels and the thin man.. thats why u want to smoke.. it keeps u thin.. and strangely enof healthy and protected from caridiac problems..It also looks cool when you cinematically show the smoke billowing upwards after a puff, even gandalf looked cool blowing a ship from his pipe..
Same reason all the girls in videsh want to smoke as it keeps them thin and also is a body heat inducing agent that helps you tide over the cold weather in these places. The 'keeps you thin' part is of utmost importance here as being un-model like is a disadvantage on the dating cicuit which is a big industry here. If you are not in then sadly you just don't fit in. There are stranger and more serious reasons women here (in videsh) smoke which i shall not post online.
Smoking also acts as a pacifier here..something like a baby pacifier to soothe folks with their hectic lifestyle..
Can you even believe it that over here in New York State you must be above 18 to legally buy cigarettes.
My granddad chews tobacco, and frankly apart from a few scares on his health which others have raised, he seems to be pulling along just fine, stronger everyday. Maybe the 'native' tobacco is pure and safe, i truly don't know.. We should ask the tribals from the andamans how long they live with smoking and without smoking ;)
Maybe the saying should be...
"Processed & Refined Tobacco aka 'Cigarette' smoking is injurious to health"
I hate it too, especially in public places. I get headaches. even passive smokers can get cancer :(
Smoking is a personal thing. But smoking in public and creating for nuisance is a highly ridiculous act. It should be strongly condemned

I for one dont like people smoking. But then its a personal thing and if they want to do it, hey its their life.
In the US women equal if not outnumber men smokers. Reasons are many. But they do seem to be able to give it up when they need to, like when they get pregnant and stuff.
I have observed that too. In US a lot of women smoke. Thats cruel, knowing that they might have to carry a baby someday.

I totally agree with you. It is funny how sometimes people are offended when you (politely) ask them not to smoke in the common areas and take themselves and their smoking mouth elsewhere. Well, it must give them the kicks... No clue.
Did you watch the advt. that came on TV some time ago. There is this lady who rolls down the highway in a nice car and spots a guy asking for a ride? She ignores him and goes on and then sees him (rearview mirror) take out a pack of cigs and stops. She backs her car upto him. For a minute it looks like a cig promotion advt. Then comes the notice "Men who smoke are usually sterile" (or something like that)... Pretty cool advt.
