Black..

Black is awesome.Let me talk about Rani first. She has done a wonderful job.Rani has expressed pain, joy, love and pride so beautifully.Hats off to her.She brings tears to your eyes many times during the movie. She will definetely win many awards for this. And Amitabh too.I should say that it is one of his best movies.Too bad people are going to talk more about Rani.I just hope he gets equally noticed too. They both have lived the characters. And not only Rani ,Amitabh, but everyone in the movie. The characters just pass on what they feel to you.The woman who plays Rani's mother is great too! There is this scene when mother and child meet after a span of 20 days of separation. The joy in the mother's eyes is so evident..every expression is captured beautifully.

The movie itself is very different..Its about a girl who is blind n deaf and how her teacher changes her life and she his.I wouldn't want to say anything more than this. Its quite a short film. And its so unlike any other Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie. It hardly has any colour in it except of course Black.

The best thing about the movie is that when you leave the movie hall u dont feel bad and sympathise physically handicapped people.Rather makes you feel that anything is possible.

Very touching.Esp for me since the previous movie I watched was Thirupaachi ,this was like water in the desert.

And Yeah!there will be some who might not like it too.Its kinda arty and more like a documentary. It doesnt have the least bit of commercialism. So if you expect something with comedy and romance and girls dancing around in skimpy clothes then Black is not the one.

I am not sure if I want to watch a Bhansali movie because he always goes overboard with sentiments. Khamoshi was maudlin and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam sans the songs was very teary too. The 10 minutes of Devdas I saw was so bad, I swore off his movies. To break that oath would be hard. But Black might just be it. Lets see.

PS: Quick advice. Its good practice to give owner credits for photos that you shoot. That was, you dont violate copyright laws, even if they are rarely enforced in India :)

I am surprised you didn't mention a
word about Ravi K Chandran's
Cinematography. If I wrote a review, I
would talk about his work first. I was
in awe of it.

Ramesh.
